film maker and conservationist Jeff Barrie will appear at Berea College
October 18 for a screening of his documentary "Kilowatt Ours," the
story of his 18 month journey across the Southeastern United States to
document energy related problems and present viable solutions to them.
The screening, scheduled for 7 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Chapel, is free
and open to the public.
In making the film, Barrie was motivated by a larger mission: to initiate
an ambitious movement devoted to reducing energy consumption and promoting
renewable resources in an effort to improve the quality of life in
the South East.
The film's website, Error! Hyperlink reference not valid., contains
more information about the project and also includes information and
links related to alternative energy and methods to help decrease consumption.
An earlier award-winning documentary by Barrie, "Arctic Quest:
the Search for Truth" released in 2000, brought attention to issues
related to drilling for oil in the Alaska national wilderness.
The event is sponsored by Berea College's Helping Earth and Learning
(HEAL), Center for Excellence in Learning through Service (CELTS) and
Sustainability and Environmental Studies (SENS) program. For more information,
contact Dr. James Dontje, (859) 985-3948.
