| In
our current world situation with nations rising against nations
over issues of religion, with terrorism deeply seated in religious
thought and animosity, there is no better time to explore what
is Islam and what does it mean to students of this faith at Berea
College. A panel of Berea’s Muslim students will share their
personal experiences and answer questions at the next Berea Forum
scheduled Tuesday, April 13, 4 - 5 p.m., in Baird Lounge of the
College’s Alumni Building.
The student panel, representing a variety of countries and the
leadership of the Berea’s Muslim Student Association, will
begin with an overview of Islam. They will talk about the five
pillars of their faith that bind more than one billion Muslims
together around the world today and how the purpose and philosophy
of these five pillars directly impact a Muslim's life. The students
also will describe their experiences of being Muslim at a predominantly
Christian institution and discuss resources that have helped
feed their faith.
Berea Forum programs are free and open to the public. Meeting
times are scheduled the second Tuesday of every month (unless
otherwise noted), from 4 - 5 p.m., and are planned by a committee
of retired persons with staff assistance provided by Berea College’s
Office of Special Programs. Parking is available behind the Alumni
Building and also behind Boone Tavern. For additional information,
contact Sherry Bosch at (859) 985-3552.
