Berea,
Ky (9/16/02): Rev. Dr. Brenda Saltier McNeil, founder and president
of Overflow Ministries, will present the annual
Robbins Peace and Brotherhood Lecture Thursday, Oct. 31, by at
3 p.m. in Berea College's Phelps Stokes Chapel.
Sponsored by the College's Campus Christian Center, this lecture
is free and open to the public.
McNeil has, for more than fifteen years, served on the staff
of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in Chicago. InterVarsity,
which has a chapter located here at the College, is an international
organization that supports Christian outreach to youth and young
adults on college campuses. In her capacity as regional coordinator
of multi-ethnic training, McNeil has lectured around the country
and has represented InterVarsity at the international level.
McNeil's training in race relations has led her to the forefront
of her field. In 1990, McNeil founded Overflow Ministries, Inc.
Overflow, which began as a home-based Bible-study ministry, now
ministers worldwide. She frequently speaks to Christians and
non-Christians alike. Her vision of "uniting every tribe
and nation" has thus far been spread through seminars, conferences,
books, and tapes.
A native of Trenton, N.J., McNeil earned her Bachelor's degree
from Rutgers College, a Masters of Divinity from Fuller Theological
Seminary, a Doctorate in Divinity from the Baptist Theological
Seminary, and was officially ordained as a minister in 1985.
The Robbins Peace and Brotherhood Lectureship at Berea was established
by Lexington resident Earl G. Robbins and his late wife, Sue
D. Robbins, along with members of their family. Mr. Robbins,
a retired insurance executive, is an alumnus and former trustee
of the College. Initiated in 1989, the Robbins Lectures have
brought to central Kentucky speakers involved in many of the
nation's and world's most pressing issues, with perspectives
and insights that can assist those listening, in Mr. Robbins
words, to "decide what is important in life."
