| 1997 Berea College Graduate Matiss Zacmanis, a member of Latvia's
bobsleigh team, will be competing this weekend in the two-man
bobsleigh event at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Bobsleigh preliminary competitions are scheduled from 5-9 p.m.
on Saturday, Feb. 16 with the finals from 5-9 p.m. on Sunday,
Feb 17.
At Berea, Zacmanis earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration
and also was an outstanding athlete. He still holds the College
records in shotput - 49' 7" (1997); decathlon - 6719 points
(1996) and javelin - 191', 11" (1997).
