by Berea College, both events will take place in the College
glade at the intersection of Ky Hwy 595 and Ellipse St. Admission
is free.
The Kentucky Tree Climbing Championship will have 10-14 participants
from within the state competing in five events: 1) Secured
Footlock, 2) Belayed Speed Climb, 3) Throwline, 4) Aerial Rescue,
5) Work Climb. Top finishers in these five events will then
repeat same events to decide final 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in overall
event. A panel of judges will assess each event and participant
based on predetermined criteria. The event begins at 8 a.m.
and usually finishes by 5 p.m.
Junior Arbor Day is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. 291 children
have already signed up to attend and all activities also are
open to the public. Activities will include educational hands-on
stations featuring pruning, how trees grow, planting, bugs
and wildlife. A mock championship also will be held with three
events: 1) throw line, 2) tree climbing, and 3) teddy bear
rescue. Tree climbing will be run by Vision of EYE
KAA is a chapter of International Society of Arboriculture
(ISA). ISA is a professional organization that coordinates
the dissemination of tree care knowledge and helps to establish
standards through its association with Industry and Education.
It is also actively involved in Research through its Research
Trust Granting Programs.
DIRECTIONS: From Interstate 75, take Exit 77, the "Berea
College" exit (Hwy 595), and turn left. Parking will be
available in the adjacent Seabury Center Parking Lot.
