Mike Tracy, director of Jazz Studies at the University of Louisville,
will be the featured soloist for the Berea College Band’s
fall concert on Tuesday, Nov. 14. The 8 p.m. event will take place
in Gray Auditorium. The Berea Band is directed by Dr. John Little.
Tracy will perform with both the Bands' Wind and Jazz Ensembles,
including two contemporary, concerto-like works with the Wind Ensemble
and improvisations with the Jazz Ensemble.
The Wind Ensemble also will perform works by Tschesnokoff, Vaughn
Williams, Bach, Bencriscutto, Netico, Strauss, Grainger and Resphighi,
as well as “Fanfare,” a work by student composer Matthew
Hamblin. Hamblin and student Derrick Dooley also will assist with
conducting.
From 10 a.m. - 12 noon on Tuesday, Tracy will conduct a jazz clinic
in the band room, located on the lower level of Presser Hall.
Both the concert and clinic are free of charge and are open to
the public.
