William A. Laramee has been appointed by Berea College as Vice
President for Alumni and Development. Prior to the appointment,
Laramee was Assistant to the President/Major Gifts Officer for
the College. In his new role at Berea College, Laramee will provide
administrative leadership to the College division which includes
the alumni relations, fund development and public relations departments.
Laramee had a previous term of service with Berea College from
1972 until 1978, first as Associate Dean of Students and later
as Director of Student Development Services.
To his new role at Berea College, Laramee brings a wealth of skill and experience
in fund raising, teaching, public and community service, staff development,
leadership training, policy development and team leadership management style.
Before returning to Berea College in 1999, Laramee worked at Lyndon
State College, Lyndonville, Vermont, for 21 years. While at Lyndon
State College, Laramee served as Dean of Students for 13 years
and then as the Dean of Institutional Advancement for nine years.
Laramee completed his undergraduate studies in Business Administration
at Western New England College. Graduate and doctoral studies were
completed at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, where
he earned his M.Ed. in Counseling and Human Relations and his Ed.D.
in Policy, Planning and Administration of Higher Education. Through
postdoctoral studies, Laramee earned an M.A. from Dartmouth College.
He was twice a Fellow at the Salzburg Seminar, "Higher Education:
Institutional Structures for the Twenty-First Century," Salzburg,
Austria representing the United States on programs pertaining to
higher education.
In addition to his professional experience in higher education,
Laramee has been active in public service. He was appointed by
the Governor of Vermont to the Environmental Commission in 1997.
Laramee has fulfilled other appointments for public service including
serving as a School Board member for 13 years, as a trustee of
Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, a member of the Vermont
Adult Education Board, which he chaired in 1997 –98, the
president of Northeast Kingdom Chamber of Commerce, and Board Director
for Rotary International. Laramee was elected to serve as Justice
of the Peace, Lyndonville, VT; and Town/School Moderator, Lyndonville,
VT.
Laramee has been active in such professional organizations as
the American Association for Higher Education, the National Society
of Fund Raising Executives,
National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the New
England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council on
Advancement and Support of Education. He is a Fellow of the Society
for Values in Higher Education. In 1973, he was commissioned a
Kentucky Colonel.
Laramee and his wife Monica, a Berea College graduate of 1977,
have four adult children. They reside in Berea.
