Concert pianist Jodie Wise will perform in Berea College’s
Gray Auditorium at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10.
Sponsored by the Berea College music department, Wise’s
appearance is part of a three-month tour by the artist throughout
the U.S. during which she is performing “Millennium Mosaic:
A Celebration of American Piano Music” as part of millennial
celebrations throughout the country.
“Millennium Mosaic” introduces and celebrates the
spirit, diversity, and craft of a century of American piano music.
Showcasing the broad range of American compositional styles of
the last century, spanning Victorian parlor songs, ragtime, jazz,
folk dance and song, classical and cutting-edge contemporary music,
the program includes works by Samuel Barber and Scott Joplin as
well as pieces by lesser-known composers.
A native of Huntington, W.Va., Wise is a frequent guest artist
on concert series and festivals worldwide. She also has performed
with orchestras and ensembles throughout the U.S., including the
National Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the orchestras
of Atlanta, Boston, Pittsburgh and other major cities. Her performances
abroad include appearances with the BBC Symphony, London Philharmonic,
Montreal Symphony and other orchestras world-wide.
After making her musical debut at Carnegie Hall at the age of
12, Wise won first prize in the National Young Performing Artists
Competition in Miami when she was 16. She holds a bachelor of music
degree from Oberlin College and a master of music degree from the
University of Southern California and has pursued additional studies
at the Juilliard School in New York.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
