The Berea Forum is starting off the fall semester with a look
at global peacemaking.
Retirees in the Berea and surrounding communities are invited
to attend the first program this fall on Tuesday, September 12,
between 4 - 5 p.m. in the Taylor Room of the Alumni Building on
Berea College’s campus.
Irakli Khodeli, a Caux scholar and senior political science major from the
Republic of Georgia, will be the featured speaker who will share his experiences
on global peacemaking discussed at a summer conference in Caux, Switzerland.
Being one of 17 students selected worldwide to participate in a five-week intensive
seminar, Khodeli gained new insights into conflict transformation.
“It changed me and my world outlook,” said Khodeli. “Becoming
more aware of the nature of conflicts in general, I realized that
most conflicts have the same characteristics and share fundamental
principles, whether they are global or personal. Conflict will
only be resolved when both sides realize the benefits of peace.”
Open to all community and College retirees, the Forum has thrived
for 14 years, offering informative and entertaining talks, field
trips and fun events. Forum programs will be held the second Tuesday
of every month, except for the end of semester Christmas party
that is slated for Tuesday, December 5.
Forum programs are free and parking is available in a new lot behind
the Alumni building or at Boone Tavern.
