Barry Drake, one of rock's foremost historians, will present a
multi-media show “70s Rock: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" Thursday,
Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Berea College Alumni Building's Baird
Lounge.
"70s Rock" will celebrate, examine, clarify and put
into perspective one of the most exciting decades in music history.
Combining his extensive knowledge of music with his abilities
as an entertainer, Drake will recreate the mood of the decade in
music, images and his own commentary in the hour-and-one-half show.
Collaborating with Drake will be his wife, Pat Padka, who is the
show's technician. This is the third appearance at Berea by Drake,
who is back by popular demand.
Drake has been totally involved in the world of music since buying
his first rock n' roll record in 1954. He grew up in the New York
City area and is a graduate of Manhattan College. In 1965 he became
a performer and songwriter and in 1970 was signed to Capitol Records.
Since then, he has recorded three albums and has toured extensively
in the U.S. and Europe.
The rock and roll lectures on the 50s, 60s 70s and 80s that Drake
began giving in 1984 have evolved into the most popular shows on
college campuses. Drake consistently has been honored as the Campus
Lecturer of the Year by the National Association for Campus Activities
and "Campus Activities Magazine."
The event is free and open to the public.
