| The
public is invited to attend a May 11 dedication ceremony celebrating
the
first ever Berea College - Public Relationssponsored Habitat for
Humanity house.
The ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. on-site at 216 Mary Street
in Berea and
will include remarks from Dr. Larry Shinn, College President,
and Rev. Lee Morris, campus minister and advisor for the Berea
College Habitat Chapter.
The $40,000 project was set in motion by the efforts of Morris
and Madison
County Habitat Chapter director Guy Patrick.
The house keys, a maintenance manual, a hammer and a Bible
will be presented to the Joe Lewis family, the house recipients,
during the ceremony.
The Lewis family worked with other project volunteers to complete
their
four-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath ranch-style house. Students
from Berea, Mary Washington and Macalester Colleges and the
University of Illinois, College faculty and staff, an Americorps
group and others began building on the site in March 2000.
All funds for the build were raised through various fundraisers
and
contributions from College faculty and staff, retirees, alumni,
friends of the College, clubs and organizations and Berea's
student body.
