| A
reunion of Navy servicemen stationed at Berea College during World
War II is scheduled for June 2-4 on the College campus.
Activities will begin with a reception on Friday at the Officer's
Club at the Bluegrass Army Depot, followed by a trip to Renfro
Valley. On Saturday, alumni will gather for a noon luncheon in
the campo area between the Woods-Penniman Building and Fairchild
Hall. In the afternoon, the group will tour the recently renovated
facilities of the Appalachian Center in the Bruce Building. An
evening banquet is planned for 6:30 p.m. in Boone Tavern Dining
Room.
Reunion activities will conclude with a worship service at Union
Church on Sunday morning.
From July 1943 to October 1945, 782 men were enrolled at Berea
College in the Navy V-12 Training Program. Periodically, alumni
of this program return to Berea to share memories and renew friendships.
The V-12 alumni also coordinate a fund that annually awards
a scholarship to a Berea student selected for outstanding leadership
and citizenship. The fund also provides for a Navy V-12 award
given annually to an international student for outstanding contribution
to brotherhood and international understanding on campus.
