A
bike rally and ride to raise awareness of global warning and
reduce carbon dioxide emissions, will conclude Earth Day activities at
Berea College on Saturday, April 29, beginning at 10 a.m. at Union
Church.
The Critical Mass rally will begin by presenting a petition to
College President Larry Shinn requesting Berea's leadership in
addressing the problem of global warming. Specifically, the petition
calls for the College to commit to meeting or exceeding the goal of a
7 percent reduction below 1990 levels of carbon dioxide emissions by
the year 2012, known as the
Supporters on bikes, roller blades and on foot, will circulate
throughout the community to promote actions that can be taken by both
the College and the town of Berea to reduce carbon dioxide emissions,
including encouraging greater use of bicycles by making the community
more bicycle-friendly. The rally will draw attention to the needs of bikers.
The rally and ride are sponsored by the College's Sustainability
and Environmental Sciences (SENS) Program and Helping Earth and
Learning (HEAL).
