The
public is invited to participate in a Planning Forum on the
renovation of Berea College's Draper Building on Thursday, March 30.
The forum will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Seabury Center, Trustees Room.
Renovation of Draper Building is scheduled to begin in June, 2001 and
be completed at the end of July, 2002. A committee to oversee
planning, chaired by John Bolin, dean of the Faculty, was formed in
fall of 1999.
The Planning Forum is an opportunity for alumni, retirees, faculty
emeriti and others to express ideas and make suggestions for the
renovation. The forum will include members of the Planning Committee
and be led by representatives of Ecological Design Institute/Van der
Ryn Architects of Sausalito, Ca., who are providing architectural
services for the renovation.
The Draper Building is the largest classroom and faculty office
building on Berea's campus. Built in 1937, it has served as a
classroom facility for the College's Foundation School as well as its
college-level programs. Currently, Draper houses five academic
departments and various services, including the Campus Christian
Center and Danforth Chapel. Ecological Design/Van der Ryn associate Rob Pena
was a presenter at
the second of three ecological design seminars which took place at the
College in January.
