The
Berea College Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will perform at
locations in Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia on its annual spring
concert tour March 18-23.
Performances are scheduled in Somerset, Ky., Oak Ridge, Lebanon and
Ooltewah, Tenn., and in Chickamauga, Ga.
The 60-voice choir is conducted by Dr. Stephen Bolster. Gale Heard
will accompany the group on organ and piano.
Featuring a variety of sacred and secular works, the concert
program will include choral music appropriate for the Lenten season
and sacred works by Handel and Haydn. On the lighter side, the choir
and chamber singers also will perform English Renaissance madrigals
and a selection of folk songs.
Berea College's Concert Choir, formed in 1949, has for five
decades performed inspirational concerts for audiences in the United
States, Europe and Canada. Since 1980, under Bolster's direction, the
choir has toured extensively in the eastern U.S. and during January
1994 performed throughout eastern Europe.
Bolster is professor of music and chair of the music department at
Berea, where in addition to directing the Concert Choir and Chamber
Singers, he teaches voice and choral conducting. Heard also is on
Berea's faculty and is instructor of music.
