Home Coming 1999
 

All of the ingredients were there to make the last homecoming of the millennium a great success. Mix a parade and a variety of presentations with athletic contests and royalty and you have a Homecoming get-together worth of Berea College. More then 1800 alumni returned to campus to participate in the home coming activities.

James R. Masters, '58 (center) Dr. Smith T Rowell, '61 (right)The Alumni Association recognized five outstanding alumni during Homecoming '99 . Joyce Van Sant Judge, '57, the executive director of the National Alliance for the Mentally  ill (MAMI), received the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Gary H. Chapman, '84, an associate professor of art at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Christopher O.Hines, '84, an assistant principle and former teacher of the year" in DeKalb County (Ga.), received the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. College physics professor Smith T. Powel, '61 and former Berea registrar James Masters '58, received the Alumni Award of Special Merit
