A social psychologist by training, Dr. Lutsky is Kenan Professor of Psychology at Carleton College and the 2011 recipient of the American Psychological Foundation’s Charles Brewer Distinguished Teaching of Psychology Award. The title of his talk was: “What’s Luck Got to Do with It? Popular and Scientific Claims in the Light of Psychological Science.” Dr. Lutsky highlighted 10 basic questions derived largely from psychological methods that were a guide critical thinking about claims we encounter in the media, medicine, and science. His talk illustrated questions in a consideration of results from recent research on the supposed effects of “good luck” on human performance.
