Asked Questions Can't find the question you are looking for? Ask Admissions
The interview is a required component of the first-time freshman fall application process, the only exception to this requirement being international students. 2. Why is an interview required? An interview accomplishes several things. It allows us to get to know you better and it allows you to become more familiar with all Berea has to offer. 3. Who will be conducting the interview? We have a friendly, well-qualified staff of Admissions Counselors who will be conducting most of the interviews on campus. 4. What will I be asked in the interview? It depends. Each and every student brings his or her own unique personality, set of values, and cumulative life experiences to the interview table. Likewise, each interviewer does the same. Hopefully, this will result in a conversation that is unscripted, spontaneous, and enjoyable for both parties. Our agenda is simply to get to know you better. Your agenda should be to talk as openly and honestly about yourself as possible. If you are able to do that, you will leave campus with the knowledge that you fulfilled every expectation of the interview process. 5. What part will the interview play in whether or not I am offered admission? The interview is just one of many things that may play a part in the decision-making process; perhaps, no more or less, however, than any other single component of your application, including your essay, academic achievements, financial need, etc. 6. Besides myself and the interviewer, will anyone else be permitted to sit in on my interview? Our experience shows that applicants are more focused, and therefore better able to communicate their goals and aspirations, when interviews are conducted on a one-on-one basis. Therefore, we encourage friends and family members to wait patiently while you meet with one of the members of our professional staff. 7. How long will the interview take? Most interviews require between 20 and 30 minutes of your time. 8. When should I arrive for the interview? It's probably a good idea to arrive on campus at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment(s). 9. What should I wear to the interview? We encourage you to dress comfortably, especially with regard to shoes, since it is likely you will be walking about campus. Having said that, however, you should be aware that the way in which you dress communicates something about you. What you might like that "something" to be is completely up to you. 10. Do I need to bring anything with me? If you have outstanding documents that would contribute to the completion of your file, such as a high school transcript, recommendation(s), etc., please bring them with you. Moreover, if there is rain in the forecast, you may wish to grab an umbrella. Otherwise, there's nothing much you will need to bring with you. 11. Is there anything I should do to prepare for the interview? Not really. Just come, be yourself, and have a great time while on campus!
