![]() "We live in a world of great diversity. You're not going to live surrounded by people who believe exactly as you do. Among the greatest gifts we can give our students is the knowledge of how to live with, work with, and appreciate others." DUANE SMITH Duane Smith has taught many courses at Berea, he's also learned a lot along the way Berea College has a heritage of showing respect for and embracing the equality of all people. In fact, Berea was the first interracial and coeducational college in the South. Today, Dr. Duane Smith plays a part in carrying on that tradition. As an Associate Professor at Berea College, he strives to create an atmosphere that accepts and celebrates all people. As Associate Professor of Religion, Duane Smith understands that there are many belief systems throughout the world--and throughout his classroom. Sometimes those differences are cultural. Sometimes they're ethnic. Sometimes they're political. But without exception, they're welcomed here. It's a key component of Berea's inclusive Christian tradition and commitment to academic excellence. |
