KEES and Outside Scholarships

Many of our students receive Kentucky's KEES and other outside scholarships (such as those from civic organizations and churches). Many students and families assume that these funds can be used to offset their Expected Family Contribution (EFC) amount. In most instances, federal regulations prohibit using such funds for this purpose.

Depending upon individual circumstances, these funds might be used to offset some of the remaining cost for books, supplies, and some other costs. In other circumstances, accounts may be established and funds accessed for other approved purposes (such as excessive book and supply expenses, travel abroad opportunities, etc.). In any circumstance, funds from KEES or other outside scholarships can not be used to offset the EFC.
