Applying for Admission: Transfer Students

Berea encourages the application of transfer students who have achieved a minimum college GPA of 3.0. Students who have attended a regionally accredited institution may expect all of their non-technical course work in which they earned a grade of "C" or higher to be transferable.

Students who have completed more than the equivalent of two years of college credit may not be eligible for admission. In no case is any student who has earned an undergraduate degree eligible for admission.

Students who have attempted college-level coursework must have official copies of all transcripts sent to the Admissions Office even if they do not wish to transfer the credit. Students who have not performed as well as they may have liked in previous coursework may include a written explanation with their application. Failure to report previous college-level work will result in the withdrawal of an offer of admission and/or dismissal from the College.

In order to be considered by our Admissions Decision Team, you must submit a complete application. A complete transfer application consists of the following items:

  • A completed application form using our online form. (PDF will be available in July)
  • Your written response to one of two essay options
  • Official high school transcript
  • Official ACT or SAT I scores (waived for applicants who are able to present an official transcript showing grades for at least 24 semester hours of college credit at a regionally accredited institution)
  • Two recommendations (online form or PDF), each from a former teacher, principal, or other school administrator (unless applicant has not recently been enrolled, in which case, recommendations from professionals in non-educational fields and/or other community leaders will be accepted)
  • Official college transcript(s) sent directly to the Berea College Office of Admissions from each institution attending/attended
  • Financial information in the form of FAFSA results (preferred) or submission of Berea's Family Resource Questionnaire (which may serve as a tentative means for determining the likelihood of financial eligibility)
