Sustainability
Green Initiatives
Printing Services is committed to being environmentally responsible. Our efforts are continual and progressive. Here is how we are currently doing our part:
Certification
Since July 2008, Berea College Printing Services has Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody (CoC) certifications. These certifications signify that the paper used has been grown, harvested, recycled and produced in a sustainable, responsible manner. While we’ve always been able to purchase and print on FSC certified paper, these certifications allow us to label qualifying print jobs with the FSC or SFI branding, assuring that the paper has been produced in accordance with FSC or SFI policies.
Recycling
We recycle most of the waste generated in our production facility, through campus recycling.
Standard Products
All standard business cards and letterhead are printed on a recycled stock or paper made from renewable sources.
Ink
Most of the inks we use are formulated and manufactured to be environmentally responsible and incorporate the use of renewable resources of vegetable oils (such as soy).
Paper
We work with manufacturers who have strong economic, environmental, and social commitments. The majority of our major paper vendors, as well as paper mills, are SFI and FSC certified. We stock and encourage the use of recycled paper from such vendors.
