Students
and faculty of the Department engage in many activities, both academic
and social. Among the highlights are daily, informal conversations
around the halls and offices of the Department, and the annual
Department cookout-Frisbee-volleyball extravaganza at faculty homes.
In recent years students have organized an informal philosophy
club for discussion of topics, sometimes led by invited faculty.
Religion students meet informally to engage together questions
of faith and learning. The Department brings to campus scholars
from other institutions to share their work and engage discussion.
Philosophy and Religion students have successfully competed
for Watson Fellowships to support post-graduate projects involving
international travel. While at Berea students often travel
abroad to study in KIIS programs in Europe and Latin America.
And students have also joined departmental faculty as participants
in archaeological excavations underway in the Middle East.
On campus, students assist faculty with scholarly research
projects, whether during the academic year or the summer months.
Graduates of the Department have pursued further, advanced
in the study of Law, philosophy, and religion at such institutions
as the University of Chicago, Columbia University, Vanderbilt
University, Duke University, Purdue University, and state universities
in Wisconsin, Kentucky, Illinois, and Arkansas.
