General Service Eligibility
Berea College Health Service provides medical services for:
- enrolled students who pay a mandatory health fee, e.g. this would include full-time degree seeking students, TRIO students, etc;
- eligible students’ dependents (as defined below) for which a health fee has been paid;
- current Berea College employees and their eligible dependents (as defined below);
- college retirees under age 65 and eligible dependents under the provision stated below;
- employees and eligible dependents (as defined below) of agencies with which Berea College has a contractual agreement for essential services to the College (i.e. Sodexo, outsourced services).
Eligible Dependents
For purpose of treatment at College Health Service, full-time student and employee dependents include a spouse and dependent children aged 3-23.
Service to Retirees
“Retiree” is here defined as one 55 years or older who retires from Berea College employment or employment with a contractual agency (as described above) and is not employed elsewhere on a full time basis.
Service is provided to retirees between ages 55 through 64 from the date of retirement until 6 months beyond the 65th birthday. Upon retirement at age 65 or beyond, Health Service will see retirees for up to six months to arrange for transfer of care.
Spouses of retirees may receive care during the longer of two time periods: (1.) 6 months beyond the retiree’s 65th birthday or (2.) the length of time during which the former employee is eligible for service.
Employees whose employment with Berea College or a contractual agency is terminated either voluntarily (other than through retirement) or involuntarily are eligible for service for 3 months following cessation of employment. If possible, insurance will be billed for service. If the patient is uninsured, the standard office fee will be charged (currently $5).
Service to Those on Disability Status
Berea College employees with confirmed disabilities, as defined by the College’s disability insurance provider or by the Social Security Administration, and their eligible dependents may receive service from College Health Service for two years from the date of disability. “Date of Disability” is the date of the confirmed disabling incident or onset of the confirmed disabling condition as established by the College’s disability insurance provider or the Social Security Administration.
