Verification Specialist

Intro:

Berea College is currently recruiting a temporary position for a Verification Specialist. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Verification Specialist will work with financial aid to collect and resolve information that will be reported on the Federal Student Aid application, such as tax returns and other documents to reconcile information submitted on the FAFSA and submit corrections to the federal processing center.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of the Verification Specialist include the following: calling or e-mailing students and parents on verification status; working with students and parents on documents that need to be filed; reconciling financial data reported on FAFSA and submitting for processing; using Banner soft-ware to make corrections; keeping notes on progression of work done so far; establishing priorities to complete verification; helping with other FAFSA initiatives.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have the following: BA degree preferred; strong customer service orientation; federal US tax background helpful or willingness to learn and work with various tax returns and knowledge of basic accounting skills; comfortable with technology, and software programs; knowledge of MS Word and Excel preferred; independent worker, but also team oriented; strong  communication skills, both written and verbal, detail orientated; must be able to do light lifting  up to 40 lbs.
