Intro:
Berea College has an opening for a full-time Painting, Carpentry and Student Trades Team Leader in the Facilities Management Department to provide leadership and supervision for the carpentry, painting and student maintenance functions.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Painting, Carpentry and Student Trades Team Leader include the following: with input gathered from various sources, prioritizes work orders and coordinates daily work assignments based on data and needs; has working knowledge of and may be called on to perform duties in the following trades: carpentry, painting, and other general trades; troubleshoot, repair, construct, or finish architectural elements of facilities as needed; proactively communicate status of repair and issues with customer work requestors to assure satisfaction; provide educational mentoring to labor students that includes not just the technical aspects, but how their work impacts sustainable principles such as environmental stewardship, economic sustainability, and social equity with respect of others; work with contractors to obtain quotes, schedule work and perform follow up duties when installation/repairs are outsourced; leadership by example of safe working practices and assurance that the team follows Safe Work policies of the College and OSHA.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate for this position will have a high school diploma or GED required; two years of college or similar vocational-technical education in one of the major construction trades – carpentry, painting, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pipefitting, mechanics, etc. preferred; seven to ten years related experience and demonstrated competence in at least two or more of the following trades: carpentry, painting, masonry, lock-smithing, or mechanical repair; diploma or certificate from a recognized Vocational-Technical institution beyond the high school level may be substituted for two years of experience; strong technical knowledge in one or more of the repair trades necessary for an understanding of troubleshooting or competent repair work: carpentry, painting, glazing, masonry, and mechanical repair; additional general knowledge of plumbing, electrical, or HVAC principles and techniques is preferred; ability to read blueprints, plans, and drawings; knowledge and practical experience with safe work methods and procedures within the specified trades, including but not limited to the use of PPE, ladders, scaffolds, rigging, staging, lock-out/tag-out, confined space, etc.; ability to organize and prioritize work based on systems data and to assure customer service satisfaction with proactive communication with customers; ability to work well with others, showing respect and teamwork; ability to work comfortably with computers, maintenance management systems, and software such as Word and Excel; ability to provide educational mentoring to labor students that includes not just the technical aspects of the work, but how their work impacts sustainable principles such as environmental stewardship, economic sustainability, and social equity with respect of others.
