Instructor – 3 Positions – Upward Bound Math Science

Intro:
Berea College is currently recruiting three temporary seven-week positions with Upward Bound/Upward Bound Math Science. Instructors will work collaboratively and independently to provide students with active learning experiences, ensuring that they are provided with a rich academic experience that further prepares them for success in high school and eventually college.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Instructor include the following: developing and implementing curriculum for groups of students on topic determined in consultation with Director of Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math Science; participating in 3-4 planning sessions between April 1 and May 30, 2013; collaborating with colleagues to provide interdisciplinary experience; providing superior instruction and project/activity based learning experiences for high school students; providing student supervision and support during summer events, field trips and college visits; participating in training during the week prior to the beginning of the summer program; completing and returning all necessary program paperwork and documentation by the conclusion of program.
Qualifications:
Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required; Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related field preferred; demonstrated teaching experience is essential; a minimum of two years experience in teaching, classroom instruction, counseling, higher education, college access or youth development. The successful candidates for this position will have the following skills: an understanding of first generation, low-income youth; familiarity with college access programs, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; capacity to manage multiple tasks and to meet deadlines and expectations; and good oral and written communication skills; positive work habits including documentation and long range planning skills; excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience working with youth.
