Zackary Kocher

Hi, my name is Zack Kocher! I’m a Senior Speech Communication major at Berea College. I came to Berea College from my hometown in Chase, Kansas. After visiting Berea College three years ago as a senior in high school, I knew that this was an institution that could help me make a difference. It was also a relief to have the option to not be faced with out of state tuition. Making the choice to move far away from all my family and friends was not easy, but I definitely have no regrets. During my time at Berea College I have had the opportunity to volunteer, travel abroad, intern with various positions, and meet some amazing people. I am also looking forward to working with the talented individuals at BCNow this year.

I consider myself to be very lucky with the amount of support that I have had from my friends, family, and the teachers throughout my life. I enjoy anything positive and active including the gym, camping, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, gymnastics, and racquetball. Some of my favorite books include, “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris and “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki.

Some of my goals include starting my own business and acting on a soap opera. Although I grew up in a very rural town, my mother always taught me to be my own person. In our lifetime we are constantly receiving different messages from friends, family, and even the media concerning who we should be and how we should live our life. I believe it is important to surround yourself with positive and worthwhile individuals that accept you as a unique individual. In today’s society, it is our differences that make us the same.

Graduating Berea College is a goal that I will soon be accomplishing. Starting a new chapter of my life is exciting, because I know I am entering a world with a one of a kind degree. There are many things that I would like to do after leaving Berea College, but I would like to pursue a career in Marketing, Advertising, or Entrepreneurship. I know that I will have a successful career because I am constantly thinking, “What’s next?” The world is my oyster!
