Mike Loruss

Greetings! My name is Michael Loruss; I’m a sophomore majoring in English literature, and am originally from southern California. Though moving to Berea might seem (to some) quite a distance to travel for the sake of pursuing further education, I view the change in environment as a new and welcome experience and challenge.

Spending three years enlisted as a medic in the United States Army allowed me the opportunity to visit such locales as Kosovo, Kuwait, Iraq as well as Bulgaria. Thus began my interest in travel, leading me (post-military) to the likes of Mexico and Scotland. Through Berea College’s study abroad program, I hope to eventually experience living in Ireland, Denmark, or wherever my passions lead me.

Plus, with an interest in photography, I’m certain to capture many memories and stunning images. After all, photographing for BCnow allows me plenty of experience with a camera in my hands. As for my post-Berea aspirations, I’d like to see myself studying a Master’s program in the United Kingdom. With what I’ve learned through my professors here at Berea College, I’ll definitely be prepared.
