Atossa Kramer began her music study at the age of 8 in New York. She continued her study of music through high school, graduating from Ann Arbor High School in Ann Arbor Michigan. During those years she participated in both school and regional bands and orchestras as well as studying privately. She spent two summers at Interlochen Music Camp during this time.
After graduating from the Oberlin Conservatory, she came to Kentucky . She worked in eastern Kentucky at the Hindman Settlement School and the Pine Mountain Settlement School. At Hindman, she was the first driver/teacher of the Music Mobile. This was an itinerate music program taken to some of the remote one- and two-room schools in Knott County. At Pine Mountain, she taught grade school for several years as a regular classroom teacher.
In addition to her classical training on piano and clarinet, she has developed a love for music of the folk tradition, specifically English and American country dance music. This inspired her to learn to play the accordion as well as the recorder. Ms. Kramer is currently involved in playing for folk dance workshops in New England and the south. She is a musician for the Berea College Country Dancers as well as on the staff for the Christmas Country Dance School.
