Puppetry performance by Wood and Strings Theatre coming to Berea College Nov. 19

Wood and Strings Theatre will bring the magic of puppetry to Berea College in their performance “Out of the Mist – A Dragon,” at Berea College Thursday, Nov. 19.  The event in Phelps Stokes Auditorium is scheduled from 3-4 p.m.  Part of Berea’s Convocation program, admission to the event is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of Clarissa Lega, producer, and Leon Fuller, director, this professional touring company weaves tales of magic and adventure using traditional folk puppets from diverse cultures around the world.  “Out of the Mist – A Dragon” will use elegant reproductions of the classic Bunraku puppets of Japan, reaching into the world of myth and legend to portray a young man’s journey of self-discovery. His encounters with traditional folk puppets from North America, England and Indonesia give exotic glimpses of puppetry styles rarely seen in this country.

Based in Tennessee, Wood and Strings Theatre has for the In the past 16 years presented in outstanding performing arts centers across the nation, including the Lincoln Center Arts Institute, Wolftrap Performing Arts Center in Virginia and at “National Geographic Live” in Washington, D.C., and have produced festival events in South America.  Yearly, they do more than 300 performances and are seen by over half a million people.  Honors include being nominated for the Tennessee Governor’s Awards in the Arts and receiving an Outstanding Southerners Award from Southern Living Magazine.
