Poet Vivian Shipley to discuss and read from her works Nov. 15 at Berea College

| Poet Vivian Shipley will read from and discuss her poems at Berea on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 7-8 p.m. in room 100 of the Draper Building. A reception in the Learning Center in Draper is scheduled to follow the program. From 6-6:45 p.m., Shipley will lead a session on publishing your writing, also in room 100.
The events, which are all free and open to the public, are sponsored by the Department of English, Theatre and Speech Communication and the Learning Center at Berea. Shipley is the Connecticut State University Distinguished Professor and Editor of “Connecticut Review” from Southern Connecticut State University. A Kentucky native and a graduate of the University of Kentucky, Shipley was inducted by UK into their Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in 2007. Many of her poems have Kentucky roots. She has published five chapbooks and her seventh book of poems, “Hardboot: Poems New & Old” won the 2006 Paterson Prize for Sustained Literary Achievement and the 2006 Connecticut Press Club Prize for Best Creative Writing. Shipley has won numerous other awards for her writing as well. Her books “Gleanings: Old Poems, New Poems” and “When There Is No Shore” were Pulitzer Prize nominees. A new book of poetry, “All of Your Messages Have Been Erased” is scheduled for publication soon. |
