| A concert by two of America’s most talented and widely-recognized folk musicians John McCutcheon and Malcolm Dalglish will kick off Berea College’s 32nd Celebration of Traditional Music Oct. 26-29. The long weekend of old time music, dance and good times features traditional musicians from throughout Appalachia for performances, workshops and a symposium this year focused on “Affrilachian Music.”Best friends McCutcheon and Dalglish are established solo artists currently on tour together with “Songs and Strings: A Reunion of Two Masters” Thursday, Oct. 26, beginning at 8 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Chapel. The concert is co-sponsored by the Berea College Convocation program.
Another high point of the Celebration, Saturday night’s Concert of Festival Musicians, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Phelps Stokes, and will feature Nat Reese, Sue Massek, Jake Krack and the Whoopin-Hollar String Band, Greg and Emily Beasley, Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble. New this year is the inclusion of a mariachi band, Mariachi Mi Mexico, in the line-up of festival musicians to celebrate the traditions of some of the Spanish-speaking people who have become part of many communities in the region. |
