Instrumental Ensembles Concert Tuesday Nov. 16

The Berea College Wind and Jazz Ensemble Concert is scheduled for Tuesday Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. in Gray Auditorium located in Presser Hall. In addition to the Wind Ensemble, which includes Chamber Winds, there will be two other ensembles withteachers from Lexington, Ky. The Jazz Ensemble will be directed by David Hummel. The Fusion Ensemble, a contemporary percussion group, is directed by Tripp Bratton. This concert will be considered as a Departmental event for for Music Majors.

The Wind Ensemble will be directed by Associate Professor of Music, Dr. Charles Turner. The Chamber Winds will be playing Le Nozze de Figaro from “The Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart and The Wind Ensemble will follow with pieces varying from Russian Christmas music to a “Pirates of the Caribbean” medley.

The Jazz Ensemble, directed by David Hummel, will play pieces that vary from Summertime, composed by George Gershwin, to A Night in Tunisia, with David Hummel, who will be performing a trumpet solo. Other performances will include trombone, tenor saxophone and vocalist solos. Trombone soloists will be Ruth Wiley and Victoria Dassinger; Trumpets soloists will be David Hummel and Rachel Burnside; Tenor Saxophone soloist Elizabeth Quay will perform with vocalist Jemma Safaryan and guitarist Oliver Vaught.

The Fusion Ensemble is a contemporary percussion group that mixes classical and jazzy musicical styles. Fusion will be directed by Tripp Bratton and the pieces are as follows: Music for Gong Gong written by Osibisa; Aha written by Imogen Heap and Bamboleo written by Tonino Baliardo, Jalhoul Bouchikhi, Simon Diaz and Nicolas Reyes. The group of writers who composed Bamboleo are better known as “Gipsy Kings”.
