Bishop Murphy McKenzie is the first female bishop in the nation’s oldest African-American denomination, the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Her presentation highlights the value of vision, perseverance, and
spiritual-centeredness in the transformation of lives.

Mr. Rashidi has excelled as a community and political activist, founder and director of a national non-profit organization (Project J.A.M.S.), accomplished national lecturer, and a phenomenal spoken-word artist. Amon has received a 2003 ESSENCE Award and George Washington Medal of Honor for such innovative programs as RAPADEMICS and Project J.A.M.S. He has appeared on CBS’ 48 Hours, CNN, the USA Television Network, and twice on the PBS special, “Who Cares About Kids”, with internationally acclaimed poet laureate Maya Angelou.

This event is dedicated to encouraging thought provoking discussion about the
experiences of Blacks at Berea College and that of the Berea greater community, as
well as to identify strategies for the future. The format will include faculty and student panel discussions and a luncheon.
