Political Expert Darrell West Speaks at Berea’s Nov. 4 convocation

Darrell West, vice president and director of Governance Studies and director of the Center for Technology Innovation at Brookings Institution, will be this year’s Begley-Van Cleve lecturer, and will present at convocation on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 3 p.m. in Phelps Stokes auditorium.
His lecture, occurring two days after the mid-term elections, “will cover what happened in the election, why things turned out the way they did, and what they mean for the future of the country.”
Prior to working with the Brookings Institute, Dr. West was the John Hazen White Professor of Political Science and Public Policy and Director of the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University. He received his Bachelor of Arts in political science at Miami University in Ohio and his doctorate in political science from Indiana University in 1981. His specializations include elections, technology policy, and mass media.
West is the author of 17 books including Brain Gain: Rethinking U.S. Immigration Policy, Digital Medicine: Health Care in the Internet Era, Digital Government: Technology and Public Sector Performance, Biotechnology Policy Across National Boundaries, and Air Wars: Television Advertising in Election Campaigns, among others.
