Berea College Hosts 73rd annual Christmas Country Dance School

11/29/10

Dance in the new year at Berea College’s 73rd annual Christmas Country Dance School December 26 – January 1. Ages 13 and up can enjoy daily dances, singing and classes in traditional dance styles, including American contra and square dancing, waltz, English country, Morris, rapper, Appalachian clogging & Kentucky running sets, mummer’s play, plus singing, music, storytelling, crafts and parties. Internationally known musicians, callers and instructors join Kentucky’s finest. Their talent, energy and patience ensures a week of fun, creativity, learning and community. The week concludes with a gala New Year’s Eve banquet and dance.

Many of the classes are graded, so beginners are given the special attention they need, while advanced dancers and musicians are provided with new insights and inspirations. Advanced leadership classes are also available for callers and dance instructors, and teachers can earn continuing education units.

This year, please note that only three of the evening dances will be open to those who are not enrolled full-time. Visitors can attend these dances on December 26, 28 and 30 with a $20 charge at the door.

Registration is limited, so register early! November 1 deadline ensures acceptance, after that only as space is available. Tuition for the full week is $275.00 if paid before December 1. Scholarships are available on a limited basis. Most events will be held at the Seabury Center at Berea College.
