Exhibit: Homeless--telling our own stories

"Take a step into the lives of the homeless by seeing their stories brought to life." "Homeless" documents personal stories through photographs, drawings, audio, and video footage. The display is sponsored by Berea College Baptist Ministry.

Floral Art by Jerry Workman

The artist plays with color, form, and texture of plant life in this exhibit of cards. Blooms collected from ocean to ocean and pressed in old phonebooks are taken apart and rearranged to make a creative new statement.

Dia de los Muertos

The Dia de los Muertos altar in Hutchins Library is sponsored by the Campus Christian Center, CELTS, the Foreign Languages Depts, and the Hispanic Student Association; it will remain in place long enough to give our community a chance to contribute to it.

The Galapagos Islands
In January 2008, fifteen Berea faculty embarked on an eleven day cruise to explore the Galapagos Islands. Glimpse the uniqueness of these islands through photographs taken by the faculty on this "trip of a lifetime."

New Database: Slavery, Abolition, & Social Justice 1490-2007

Hutchins Library Special Collections & Archives is among several libraries, archives, and museums who have contributed material to this rich and unique collection of images, manuscripts, maps, scholarly essays, and other related online resources. Produced by Adam Matthew Digital.

Working Overtime: Artwork by Linda Kuhlmann

Hutchins Library is proud to present “Working Overtime,” a collection of artwork by Berea College graphic designer Linda Kuhlmann. Ms. Kuhlmann’s exhibit includes a variety of media, such as unfired paper clay, earthenware, saggar fired porcelain, acrylic paintings, and digital photography.

The exhibit runs through April.

Experience Italy -- Art Exhibition by Prof. Emeritus John Wallhausser

"Italy is history -- haunted and it draws us to itself."

Dr. John Wallhausser's art exhibit bursts with the unique flavors of Italy. These acrylic and watercolor paintings offer the viewer a snapshot of Tuscany's idyllic, natural beauty. La vita è bella!

The exhibit runs through March.

Stereo Photography Exhibit

Short Term class GST 107 (Stereo Photography -- Science, History, and Practice) are now displaying their creative and “eye-popping” photographic works in the library foyer. But this isn’t your typical photography exhibit. Containing stereo slide pairs, anaglyphs, and phantograms, all of these images appear in 3-D when viewed through various lens types.

Windows on the Past: The Cultural Heritage of Vardy, Hancock County, Tennessee
Telling the Story of the Melungeons -- A Photography Exhibit

A photography exhibit recounting the community of Vardy, Tennessee during the early 20th century is now on display in Hutchins Library. The exhibit features large, slice-of-life images from daily activities in Vardy, such as church and the Vardy Community School.

Made to be Played: Traditional Art of Kentucky Luthiers

The Kentucky Arts Council and The Kentucky Historical Society are proud to present a special exhibition in Hutchins Library of the art and tradition of Kentuckians who are considered masters in the making and repairing of guitars, fiddles, banjos, mandolins, dulcimers, and other original stringed instruments.

New database -- Education Abstracts

Hutchins Library is proud to offer Education Abstracts. Accessible from the Electronic Resources page, Education Abstracts includes indexing on educational topics from 1983 and abstracting from 1994 with tons of full-text access. Mixed media collages by Laura Anne Heller

Laura Heller will be showcasing a series of seven mixed media collages this July at Hutchins Library. The exhibit opened on Thursday, June 28th and continues through July. The exhibit features large canvas-based collages which feature a variety of media to portray the seven primary chakras of Hindu tradition. The artwork attempts to explain each chakra's elements, symbolism, and use in every day life.

New BANC tutorial with quizzes

Ever been confused, frustrated, or bewildered by BANC? Behold the new and improved BANC tutorial! Topical coverage includes a brief introduction; demonstrations on searching by title, author, subject, and keyword; finding reserve materials; setting limits within BANC; and viewing personal account information. Users can skip around to complete different modules at their own pace or simply view the modules in order from beginning to end. Interactive quizzes at the end of each module reinforce the tutorial's most important points.
