Department Overview
Environmental Health and Safety serves in various capacities across
the sciences and campus. Primary responsibilities of the department
include laboratory safety, general safety management, and environmental
compliance. The department offers safety training to both employees
and students of Berea College and is actively involved in policy
development and implementation.
The department helps with the procurement of hazardous materials
and disposal of chemical and biological waste. The department also
conducts indoor air quality and ergonomic work station evaluations
and environmental assessments.
Utilizing student labor and technology, the Environmental Health
and Safety department oversees the computer chemical inventory
system, material safety data sheets for chemicals used by the College,
computer safety work stations, and manages the circulation of chemicals
throughout the Science building, Agriculture building, and in the
Technology and Industrial Arts building.
