Student Learning Opportunities

Information Systems and Services is all about service to students, faculty and staff - our customers. We are always looking for students who want to work hard at making information and communication technology work well for the campus community. We are organized into five teams.

User Services

Judy Gergen

IS&S Staff and students operate the computer help desk and media help desk for faculty and staff, and provide troubleshooting and consulting services to students using EDGE laptop computers. They set up, install and maintain classroom sound systems and video equipment, and perform media production services such as video editing, media conversions, image scanning and poster printing. Behind the scenes, they also repair computers and printers and can become certified Dell self-maintainer technicians.

Instructional Technology

Don Hodges

As new instructional technology (i.e. equipment and software) becomes available, students and staff partner to assist faculty in taking advantage of opportunities to improve teaching and learning. Students are involved in testing new instructional technologies and in helping faculty members implement these technologies in the classroom. They are also involved in supporting our Blackboard courseware.

Administrative Systems and Services

Albert Conley and Cary Hazelwood

Student programmers and web designers work alongside staff to service and maintain the college web site and Sungard/SCT BANNER, our enterprise database system. Activities include developing database inquiries and reports, setting up and testing new software versions, installing changes to web pages, and developing web site functional programming.

Network Services

Mike Tucker

Sun Microsystems’ slogan “The Network IS the Computer” applies on a college campus. The Network Services team installs, maintains and administers the network cables, switches, routers and servers that keep our individual computers and telephones working together and connected to central and outside resources. They also monitor for network traffic problems, hacking and virus outbreaks and coordinate the communication about and response to computer and telephone network problems.

IS&S Administration

Bill Ramsay

Students help keep track of purchases, budgets, payroll and office supplies and handle backup tapes, incoming equipment deliveries and other day to day activities for the department.
