Education abroad programs provide an opportunity for students to enhance their education and open their eyes to the world. Students at Berea College have a variety of education abroad options:

Berea Term Abroad

Berea students can spend a term studying in a college or university abroad, earning credit toward graduation while experiencing the life and culture of another part of the world.

Summer Abroad

Students can spend a few weeks of the summer studying abroad through the Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS), a consortium of which Berea College is a member. Opportunities are also available for Berea faculty to teach in KIIS programs. Students can also apply for a wide variety of other study abroad programs around the world.

Berea International Short Term

Students can take a Berea International Short Term (BIST) course taught by Berea College faculty in a country around the world during January (occasionally, BIST courses are offered during the summer).

Independent or Team-Initiated Studies, and Internships Abroad

Independent or Team-Initiated Studies and Internships abroad are carried out through the usual procedures for these experiences. Check the Outlook Public Folders for current information (#Academics for Independent and Team-Initiated Studies or #Internship Office for internships). The Education Abroad Adviser in the Center for International Education can provide travel information and resources for developing a proposal and a budget.
