About the Department

The mission of the Francis and Louise Hutchins Center for International Education (the “International Center”) is to provide leadership in the implementation of Berea College’s commitment to international education. Through advocacy, support, and vision, we strive to cultivate intercultural understanding and serve as a resource providing excellent educational opportunities for our community.

The Center for International Education serves as a focal point for many of the international activities at Berea College and provides a variety of programs and services to enrich the curricular and co-curricular life of the campus.

The Study Abroad Resource Library in the Center International Education provides students and faculty with information about a variety of international programs and scholarships. The Education Abroad Adviser counsels students as they select a study abroad program and provides support services during their international experience. In addition, the adviser administers a number of international scholarships and facilitates the development of Short Term international courses.

The International Student Adviser provides advising, counseling, referral and support services such as orientation, multicultural programming, immigration, and advocacy for international students. The adviser acts as liaison/mediator with the appropriate offices on-campus, the community, International Friendship Program and with various federal agencies.
