Made to be Played: Traditional Art of Kentucky Luthiers

The Kentucky Arts Council and The Kentucky Historical Society are proud to present a special exhibition in Hutchins Library of the art and tradition of Kentuckians who are considered masters in the making and repairing of guitars, fiddles, banjos, mandolins, dulcimers, and other original stringed instruments.

The American Masterpieces exhibit, made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, is dedicated to the memory of master luthier, craftsman, instrument inventor and musician Homer Ledford who passed away December 11, 2006. Other featured artists include Roy Bowen, Gary Cornett, Cathy Currier, Bryan England, Arthur Hatfield, Neil Kendrick, Donna Lamb, Lewis Lamb, Scott Leedy, Warren A. May, Art Mize, Douglas Naselroad, Frank Neat, Frank Pittman, Jimmy Robertson, and Larry Shepherd. This collection of their work and their wisdom is the result of field research conducted by the Kentucky Folklife Program, an interagency program of the Kentucky Arts Council and the Kentucky Historical Society.

The exhibit will run through the month of October.
