Key word searching is a good initial strategy. Subject searching via Library of Congress Subject headings or simple subjects such as "theatre," "theater," or "drama" may also be productive. The detailed record notes if the work contains illustrations, which are marked with "ill" or "illus." Individuals can be searched as subjects or authors. Theatre history periods, such as "Greek theater," or theatrical forms, like musicals, can make successful key word strategies. Individual designers and plays can be searched in BANC.

Internet Search Strategies and Sites

Entering a title into Google's image search will produce photos in .jpg or .gif format. Another possible search strategy is "drama" and college or university as a web search. A designer's name could also be entered as a web search or image search. Periods and styles such as "rococo" or "commedia dell arte" can be search strategies. Academic sites can be reliable and informative. Do remember websites should be selected with care.
