Learning Opportunities

  • The History department offers a few labor positions for teaching and research assistants, and office staff.
  • The Special Collections and Archives division of Hutchins Library offers practical
experience in arranging, describing, and preservation of archival and manuscript
materials documenting Berea College and Southern Appalachia.
  • The Artifacts and Exhibits Studio at the Appalachian Center offers experience in working with historical artifacts and images, and presenting history through exhibits. In addition to labor positions during the academic year, the studio offers paid summer internships (which can be done for academic credit in History). Interested students should contact the curator, Christopher Miller, christopher_miller@berea.edu .
  • History students are encouraged to pursue study abroad in areas of interest to them, through KIIS programs and other specialized programs. Students interested in such programs should consult with the department about how such course offerings might contribute to the major.
