Supper

Sister KC here. I’ve been gone a long time from the blog. I probably have an excuse but… Anyway, I wanted to show you one of my favorite things about Grow Appalachia in Floyd County KY.

Summer supper at Mt Tabor

Yep, that would be supper last night. New potatoes with white half-runner beans. Fried zucchini and green tomatoes. Tomato/basil sourdough bread and blueberries and ice cream for dessert.

The potatoes, tomatoes, zucchini and onions came from our share of Todd Howard’s first CSA. The tomato/basil sour dough bread came from Chris Steele’s stand at the Floyd County Farmer’s Market. And the half-runners were canned in 2009 by Ivan Tussey’s eldest son and gifted to me at a home visit last week. (I got a beautiful jar of snow white kraut too but will eat that later)

Oh and the blueberries came from the Mission’s garden. And all of these wonderful people are Grow Appalachia families. And the best thing is…harvesting has¬†just begun! I love my job.

PS. while I was writing this Martha Bolin came in to get her spinosad bottles refilled and left me with a jar of black raspberry jelly, a jar of pickled veggies and a sack of jade beans. This must be what Heaven is like.

Sounds SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good, KC. My beans, zucchini and blueberries are not ripe yet, but I have tons of raspberries and greens.
