  • 2000: With Peggy Rivage-Seul, led faculty development tour of Mexico and Costa Rica. Studying the theme of "Globalization and the Environment," tour participants visited the Tucson-Nogales border, studied with Gustavo Esteva in Oaxaca, Mexico, and visited sites in Costa Rica including Tortugero, Monte Verde and Guanacaste.
  • 1995-'99: Annual speech on international social issues and the environment at "Earth Roots Jamboree," Indian Fort Theater, Berea.

  • 1990-'91: At request of students and faculty representatives, addressed anti-war rallies and took part in planning and executing campus-wide educational events around the Gulf War. These included three speeches at vigils in front of the Alumni Building; an address given at a rally at the Capitol Building in Frankfurt; accompanying students to a national anti-war rally in Washington, and participation in three panel discussions to which faculty and students were invited.
