On March 2nd the Berea College GEAR UP Partnership hosted a Mexican
Fiesta Night at Clark-Moores Middle School in collaboration with
the Youth Services Center with over 85 students, parents and staff
participating. Casa Fiesta, a local Mexican restaurant, provided
food for the event. The Art Club at Clark Moores made many decorations,
placemats and also two piñatas that were raffled off.
The Spanish Club from Berea Community School and students from
CELTS at Berea College helped with making desserts, serving food
and clean-up.
GEAR UP gave away Spanish/English translation dictionaries to those
that attended. Elise Mandel, a parent educator, taught Spanish
and led Mexican crafts with students. The younger students had
the opportunity to break a piñata and then enjoy the goodies
inside.
