“Donors
give because we have an exciting and unique sense of mission.”
—Willis
D. Weatherford
Berea College President, 1967-1984
Berea’s Gift Clubs honor those alumni and friends who demonstrate their
strong commitment to Berea College by giving at certain levels or remembering
the College in their Wills. These clubs enhance communications and provide
opportunities for us to recognize donors and ask for their input on College
plans and activities. Gift club members are also guests at the President’s
Dinner each fall.
Second Century Club
Since 1980, this special group of individuals—comprised first of alumni
and now friends as well—has helped to significantly increase Berea College’s
financial base. Each member receives a handsome desk plaque made of brass and
wood, with spaces for annual tabs representing the years that membership is
maintained. An annual gift of $250 ensures receipt of a bronze tab engraved
with the year. Gifts of $500-999 qualify for a silver tab, and total gifts
of $1,000 or more earn a gold tab.
President’s Club
Over the years, Berea’s presidents have worked, fought, and even suffered
to offer the opportunity of education to promising students with limited economic
means. The president welcomes all who wish to help him in this task. Lifetime
memberships are conferred upon those who already have contributed $20,000 or
more to Berea or indicate their intention of contributing $2,000 annually until
$20,000 has been reached (including past donations). Membership may include
the donor’s spouse.
Founders’ Club
Berea’s founders, including Rev. John G. Fee, risked their lives and
made extraordinary sacrifices to establish a school where students who had
no other opportunities could reach their potential. Founders’ Club members
help to continue this legacy. Lifetime memberships are conferred upon those
who already have contributed $50,000 or more to Berea or indicate their intentions
of contributing $5,000 annually until $50,000 (including past donations) has
been reached. Membership may include the donor’s spouse.
The Great Commitments Society
The Great Commitments Society recognizes an important group of individuals
who play a key role in the future of the College. Members have included Berea
College in their Wills and/or have established life-income agreements with
the College. A garden behind Draper Hall is dedicated to these individuals
with a plaque on the inside wall that reads:
THE GREAT COMMITMENTS SOCIETY GARDEN
To honor all those devoted alumni and friends of
Berea College whose testamentary gifts will
forever sustain its distinctive mission
and perpetuate its heritage.
