Konul Amrahova PhotoKonul Amrahova

Konul Amrahova came to Berea from Azerbaijan. A double major in mathematics and economics, she received the Pugsley Freshman Mathematics Award and was inducted into Fleur de Lis freshman honor society in 2006.

Konul puts her skills and interests to work in two meaningful campus jobs. During the academic year, she works in the Labor Program office, monitoring and coordinating office budgets, compiling documentation, and ensuring accuracy. She also assists in assigning students to campus jobs by contacting supervisors, working with data, and organizing meetings.

During summer 2007, Konul worked with an economics professor and two other students on a research project to determine the effects of hurricanes on the pricing of lumber. Konul says she has learned how to be accurate, detailed, punctual, and cooperative—skills that will be important when she earns a graduate degree and opens her own investment firm.

There are three elements that make Berea College so special to me: opportunity, people, and my labor position. Working in the Labor Program Office, I have learned to take initiative, listen to mentors and peers, and strive to exceed expectations.”
